[edit] Talk

Hey:

Are non-TC students welcome to use/edit on StudyPlace?

Aaron Hung 22:39, 27 November 2007 (EST)

Hi Matt:

How do you create endnotes/footnotes on a wiki page?

Aaron Hung 12:21, 18 November 2007 (EST)

Hi Matt - we are using the CEP Best Practices site. We still need to do some training, but we're live.

Hi Matt,

All the activity associated with your course is awesome! I wonder if it might be helpful to talk to course participants about the usefulness of associating article pages with the appropriate category. What do you think?

Best, Neil

Hi Matt,

Thanks for moving Brian's proposal of a study group. I'm especially pleased to see someone from one course shape things up for another course.

Regards,

\Robbie

Hi Matt,

I just found the course page...and thus the link to your user page through "Projects." I hope this is the right way to respond to your request for suggestions on books. Though you may well know these books, here's a couple you might enjoy:

  • James Paul Gee's What Video Games Can Teach Us About Learning... (I can't remember all of the long title, but that'll enable you to find it) - He's written more about learning from video games since this book. If I recall, the first appendix...or was it the last chapter?...summarizes the entire book well in a few pages. (As with many books in my ever-changing bookcase of TC library books on non-school topics I'm interested in, I skimmed what remained to be read once someone called the book back.)
  • Steven Pinker's The Language Instinct: How the Mind Creates Language - Given your various interests in language, you're probably familiar with this one -- but I just found it by backtracking from Pinker's more recent Blank Slate on evolutionary psychology, one of my own current interests. I like Pinker's writing and thinking enough to have acquired Language Instinct for my permanent library (for a buck); you're welcome to borrow it since I probably won't get to do more than a skim until this summer due to workload.

All my best, \Dan (I don't know what the back-slash before my name does, if anything, but I'm copying Robbie above)

Hi Matt,

I'm writing to let you know that I started a Site Index category. There is much work to do, including associating articles with proper categories, but let me know if this is the sort of structure you had in mind. Hope all is well with you, nee2102 16:55, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi Matt, I've mentioned it once to my boss Hui Soo and he sounded interested. I'll ask formally about it at work tomorrow.Eric Strome 00:26, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi Matt, Thanks for making the table accessible. The excel sheet is a good resource but I don't know how to make it accessible on the site. I would like it that people can download the excel file also. Moreover, I wonder if some of the cells are not there, in the table? Moral development should have its own subfield and excel seemed to exhibit this feature better than this table. I will likely work a bit on the table this weekend- so if you have any thoughts, do let me know.

All best,

Hi Matt, I still have not solved the problem of merging user dgt2103 with my user page devayani. We talked about it in one of our meetings and Robbie had suggested that I change the nick name to devayani. Now the signature says devayani but it still points to a nonexistant user page dgt2103 as that is my actual user name. Do you know a way to merge the two? I was planning to create another account with user name devayani but then the contributions and activity under dgt2103 would not be listed under the new user name. --Devayani 14:06, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

The redirect works for me. I should have done that earlier. It is a simple solution. Thanks. --Devayani 10:12, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Posting for the Third Paper

Hi Matt,

I got a little posting-happy (needed the satisfaction of knowing one's down and now I only have one more to go) with the ITSF third paper and made a link for our class under June 20. Hope this is ok with you; I emailed the class to let them know.

[edit] Templates, course naming conventions etc

Hi matt, I had a few questions I thought I wanted to discuss about general use of studyplace for courses. I asked those questions on Robbie's user page as the template in question was created/used by him. But do we have a space where we can discuss these common issues? On the curriculum talk page there was a beginning of a discussion about page naming conventions for courses in studyplace but no conclusion. I was wondering if this discussion later happened offline. What was decided or if you have any suggestions about naming course pages. Also, can we write somewhere that it is good practice to sign your posts with date. It is so difficult to follow discussions, comments when you don't know when they were written. --Devayani 14:29, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Hi Matt, One more question about the templates. I used the course template for MSTU 6600. But in IE 7 it does not align to the right. I checked MSTU 4020 and your course also has the same problem. Can anything be done about that? I did not want to tamper/ try out things on the template as many people are using it right now. --Devayani 13:39, 13 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Thanks

Just saw you added categories to the Digital Carey pages. Thanks.

Hi Matt, back from a year of teaching. I am trying to work on a possible nomenclature for the person area. any thoughts? --Sethhalvorson 00:41, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
