Posting an essay for comment, requires two and often three steps.

  1. On the masterlist of essays, make a link. To do so, enter the author's name and enclose a short title in double brackets. Then clicking "Save page" at the bottom of the window.
  2. Fill out a Cover Page for the essay. To do so,
    1. click on the link you just made and in the edit box that comes up, type {{subst:essay}} and then click "Save page" at the bottom of the window. Note the features of the Cover Page that you will need to fill out.
    2. To fill the page out, click the "edit" tab at the top and supply the header, the link to the full text of the essay, the full citation to it, and pointers to background or critical resources on the essay and its author. There are two ways to link to the essay — one by a link to an external file, preferably in .PDF format, and the other by formatting the text for MediaWiki and putting it on a StudyPlace page. The first way requires less work; the second will facilitate more richly textured comment. (Note — if the essay is in an external file, the link to it must be in single square brackets in the form for external links; if it is on StudyPlace, the link must be in double square brackets as an internal link.)
  3. If the essay is located in an external .pdf file, you are done. If the essay is to be located on the StudyPlace Wiki, you need to click on the link that you filled out to the essay and place the Wiki-fied essay text in the edit box that comes up, then clicking "Save page" at the bottom of the window.
