CUNY DOMINICAN STUDIES INSTITUTE AT THE CITY COLLEGE - DOCTORAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS

The City University of New York Dominican Studies Institute at The City College (CUNYDSI), theonly university‐based research unit in the United States devoted exclusively to the gathering, dissemination, and production of knowledge on Dominicans and their culture and society, is offering four (4) one‐year fellowships for research‐related work in Dominican Studies at the CUNY DSI for qualified doctoral students completing their studies at universities in the United States.

• Two (2) scholarships for graduate students pursuing a PhD and interested in research on Dominican early colonial studies

• One (1) scholarship for a graduate student pursuing a PhD interested in research on Dominicans in the United States

• One (1) scholarship for a graduate student pursuing a PhD and with excellent writing skills and experience in editing manuscripts in English

The scholarships will provide selected doctoral students a stipend of $15,000 in exchange for 20 hours of work per week for the academic year 2009‐2010 at the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute. Specialized research projects will be assigned on the various topics/subfields of study and endeavorsmentioned above.

General Requirements/Qualifications:

1) Proof of completion of at least four semesters of graduate studies in a doctoral program in the United States ;

2) Two letters of recommendation from former instructors or supervisors;

3) Application letter indicating reasons for applying, interest in the fellowship, and personal abilities for position (max. 1000 words);

4) Resume/Curriculum Vitae;

5) Sample of applicant’s writing in English (research paper/manuscript/published article,ten page minimum);

6) Commitment to work during the 2009‐2010 academic year;

7) Interview (for finalists)
