Conversations

This is a page in the commons for reflecting on StudyPlace conversations and conversation in general.

On StudyPlace, we seek to adapt conversation to a digital commons, bringing forth from it a fuller understanding of what educates. It might be said that peer production originates in conversation. Historically, conversation has been the original and wonderfully generative form of peer production. Today, through conversation in a digital commons, let us make a place where thinking persons disclose what they hold in common.

To enter effectively into good conversation about what educates and miseducates requires care and forethought. A good conversation advances thought. In a thought producing conversation, one participant does not assert his ideas as sovereign over the minds of all. In a conversation, multiple persons, speaking and listening, together disclose a fuller, truer view of a topic than any one of them can do alone.
