[edit] Big Ideas

1. maintaining a centered reality
- re expectations of technology
- important to maintain a balance on things

2. re: tech in ed -> using what's best for the purpose
- alternative modes of education
- appropriate uses of tech

3. any idea can be expanded upon
- more than what's on the surface - asking what's the story?
- multiple ways to look beneath, deeper

4. societal change and the impact on how we look at and engage technology
- industrial age vs. info age
- globalization, outsourcing education
- increased automation - what's gained, what's lost?

5. effective tech that looks to solve real needs: learners needs/users needs inside and outside the classroom

6. Constructivism and Constructionism: What's the difference? (Our group neglected to make the leap from big question to big idea... Perhaps the larger group can guide us during our next meeting?)
- Does a learner require an instructor to construct meaning/construct a product to develop knowledge
- Constructivism is Piaget's cognitive development theory while Constructionism is Seymour Papert's theory of learning and teaching that incorporates the creation of a product by the learner (see Kafai, Y.B. in Sharing resources)

7. Hyperrealism - improving the quality of an original work
(a.k.a. people trying to transcend the imperfections of humanity? SHAME!!!)
-with the advent of lossless digitization, it is now possible to create digital copies that surpass the originals in terms of quality
(e.g. CDs with better sound quality than tapes, Photoshopping flawed photos, film life narratives that seem more compelling than our everyday lives, etc.)
-what is the impact of "hyperrealism" on art? society? education?

8. Fair rules and regulations that enable access to technology and education without compromises.
-Fair use of copyrighted material, making it easy to access, use so people can get it at a low cost.
-Regulations that are fair and protect the integrity of the people. Internet should be free and without unfair limits.
- Low cost access to technology and education. Without leaving anyone behind.
