Overview of A&HH4078
Participants in Technology and education in Western history will inquire into the educational implications of technological change, particularly as it has affected cultural values and the capacities to organize action and to communicate ideas. The course could carry the subtitle of Time, history, and education, for the three topics have been deeply interrelated in Western history, and we aim to develop an understanding of these interrelations. We will concentrate on the changing technologies of time, both material and conceptual, and follow how these were associated with ideas of historical development and educational formation.
Technological systems are complicated arrangements for managing action in time and space and these have significant effects on the possibilities of human life.
